Latrobe Animal Clinic has been owned and operated by Drs. Benjamin and Julie Helman since 2012. Since then, we have continued to grow the practice as two other full-time veterinarians have joined our roster: Dr. Jessica Skovira and Dr. Sadie Firestone, and Dr. Mary Bowser, who joins us part-time. We offer a wide variety of high-quality medical, surgical, and wellness care services to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Dr. Ben Helman
Veterinarian, Co-Owner
Ben Helman grew up in Salem Township and graduated from Greensburg Salem in 1998. He attended the University of Virginia, where he graduated in 2002 with a BA in Biology. Upon graduating, Ben enrolled in veterinary studies at Ross University, completing his degree in 2006. Since then, Ben has been living and practicing in the Latrobe area. He and his wife, Julie, have three children, Lauren, Garret, and Camilo, as well as two dogs, three cats, and many fish.
Dr. Julie Helman
Veterinarian, Co-Owner
Julie Helman grew up in Traverse City, MI. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2002 with a BS in Biology. Julie attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies, and completed her clinical year at Cornell. She has been practicing in the western PA area since graduating in 2006. Dr. Julie and her husband, Ben, enjoy spending family time with their three children, two dogs, and three cats, including camping, hiking, skiing, and traveling.
Dr. Jessica Skovira
Full-Time Veterinarian
Dr. Jess Skovira is originally from Scottdale, PA and graduated from Southmoreland High School. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and completed her clinical year at The Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine. She attended Washington and Jefferson College, majoring in Psychology and English and playing soccer. In her free time, Dr. Jess enjoys spending time with her family and her two dogs, Lulu and Gus.
Dr. Mary Bowser
Part-Time Veterinarian
Dr. Mary Bowser earned her undergraduate degree from Westminster College and her veterinary degree from University of Pennsylvania. She has limited her practice to soft tissue surgery. Currently her fur babies include two cats, one dog, and one not-so-furry hermit crab. She enjoys traveling, camping, reading, and spending time with family.
Dr. Sadie Firestone
Full-Time Veterinarian
Dr. Sadie Firestone grew up in Alverton, PA and graduated from Southmoreland High School. She graduated from Washington & Jefferson with a BA in Biology and Psychology. Sadie then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical year at Colorado State. She has practiced in Western PA since graduating in 2020. Sadie enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and hiking with her two dogs, Griffin and Maverick.
